It’s depressing right? There are 3 ways we as modern men can deal with this; hair transplants, a hair system (the videos you see online where a barber glues a wig to your head) and styling it correctly. The first two options are not as affordable as the third, hence the reason I decided to write this and help men in the same position as myself.
Hair loss can reveal itself at any age. But for me this happened in my early 20’s so, as you can imagine, I could not afford the transplant or the hair system. I read everything I could online about re-growing hair, I tried all the tablets, shampoos and conditioners etc. The grim reality is they only really help retain what you have left, you don’t wake up the next day or 3 months down the line with a full head of hair, sorry guys this just does not happen! Some people are confident enough to rock the Jude Law or Jason Statham, I wasn’t, and I am sure if you a reading this, neither are you.
Styling it correctly is the best way to go, if you are not looking to break the bank just yet. You need to get the right haircut and find the right products – this is where Black Label comes in. Scroll down to see what is recommended for the 3 most popular haircuts for men.
To maintain an all-day lasting look, a pre-styling spray is vital. The Black Mist or Dark Matter range will massively help here, depending on whether you prefer a salt spray or a powder. Key tip 1: DON’T USE TOO MUCH. 5 – 6 sprays of the Black Mist or 4 – 5 of the Dark Matter will work perfectly. Use the Black mist on your hair whilst it is still damp, then blow dry your hair forward using a brush or comb to set the base of your desired style. If you’ve opted for the Dark Matter, the steps are similar, however, this time apply to dry hair and, again, slightly blow dry it forward. Key tip 2: I would always advise to utilise the hairdryer on a lower power with a warm to cool heat to prevent further damage to the follicles, remember, we need to keep these hairs as healthy as possible!
Once the pre- styler has been applied, take a pea sized amount of Shape Paste and rub this into the palm of your hands until it is smooth and sticky. Carefully apply the paste (remember we don’t want to cause these hair follicles any stress by being too rough) bringing your hair forward and utilising your fringe to cover up the "M shaped" hairline that has been developing over the years. If some parts of your fringe are longer than others, get your barber to cut the fringe in a straight line.

Again, to maintain an all-day lasting look, a pre-styling spray is vital. Black Mist or Dark Matter guys, you’ve got to pick one, I promise you will not be let down by these products. Use the Black mist on your hair whilst it is still damp, then blow dry your hair forward using a brush or comb to set the base of your desired style. If you’ve opted for the Dark Matter, the steps are similar, however, this time apply to dry hair and, again, slightly blow dry it forward or sideways. (in hindsight I should have just told you to scroll up for instructions on how to use, but I get you may not have read the above).
Receding hairlines can really be complimented by this style, depending on your level of receding. For me this was stage one, after the hair started receding more, I moved to the crop cut as mentioned above. This time open your jar of Craft Clay and scoop up a fingertip full. Now because this is Clay, you will want to really heat this product up before using it, the softer the better as you will cover more hair with this amount. Key tip 3: work from the bottom of the hair root upwards, this will give you a longer lasting hold. Mold the shape you need with your hands and you’re ready to go.
Without sounding like a broken record... pre-styler. I’m not going to explain how to use them again, I don’t want to bore you. Scroll up for directions of use if you skipped the first two.
The slick back can help hide balding from the back rather than the front like the last two. Profile Putty is the product for the job this time. This provides the strongest hold combined with a satin finish to give you that true slick back style. Whether its Christian Bale’s Batman or Jared Leto’s Joker, Profile Putty will get that perfect style.
All it takes is a small finger scoop, rubbed into your hands properly and ran through your hair from front to back to cover that annoying bald spot. I must stress though, DO NOT be too rough when styling your hair. Remember we need to look after the hair we've got and keep as much of it for as long as possible!
